Edinburgh IBD Patient Day brings patients, families, and researchers together

The Edinburgh IBD team recently welcomed people living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, along with family members, partners and carers, to an in-person Patient Day focused on research, treatment and conversation.

The evening brought together patients, clinicians and researchers to share updates on current inflammatory bowel disease research trials and treatments. It also created space for people affected by IBD to ask questions, speak informally with experts and learn more about opportunities to take part in research.

Sharing current research

The programme included short talks on where IBD treatment is now and where the field is heading. Attendees also heard key findings from PREdiCCt, including results relating to diet, psychological wellbeing and faecal calprotectin in IBD.

The team introduced current and upcoming clinical trials, SENTINEL and future research directions. Poster stands gave attendees the opportunity to explore research projects in more detail, including PREdiCCt, SENTINEL, and clinical trials taking place within the Edinburgh IBD programme.

Conversation and collaboration

Alongside the formal talks, the event included time for questions and informal discussion with members of the clinical and research teams.

Patient involvement is central to the Edinburgh IBD research programme. Events like this help ensure that research priorities, monitoring approaches, trial design and future tools are shaped by the experiences and needs of people living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
